Description

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

This position is open to both early-career professionals and more experienced candidates with a background in developing quantum sensing systems. We are looking for candidates with the following background and skills:

  • A Master’s or PhD degree in Experimental Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in designing, building, and testing quantum instruments, preferably involving Rydberg atoms.
  • Proficiency in working with optical systems and electronics.
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python.

In addition to technical expertise, we are looking for someone who is:

  • Creative and solution-oriented.
  • A strong communicator (fluency in English is essential).
  • Result-driven, enthusiastic, and flexible in thinking.
  • A collaborative team player with interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities

Do you have experience in quantum sensing and are eager to work at the intersection of science and engineering? TNO is expanding its activities in this field and is looking to grow its team of researchers.
You will join the Quantum Technology department at TNO, contributing to projects carried out both directly for clients and in close collaboration with partners across the Dutch and European quantum ecosystems.
At TNO, we apply cutting-edge scientific knowledge to develop novel technological solutions and applications. Our work involves designing and building systems that harness quantum properties, bridging the gap between fundamental research and real-world applications through testbeds, demonstrators, and product development.
In this role, you will work closely with our Quantum Sensing Testbed Facility, as part of a diverse and multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and designers. Your primary focus will be on developing proof-of-concept demonstrations for industrial solutions using quantum sensors based on Rydberg Atoms. This includes contributing to the development of operational concepts, designing experimental setups, and demonstrating the underlying sensing principles in action.
