($20.10/hour) GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to operate various pieces of heavy equipment in the operation and maintenance of the County’s facilities and infrastructures. This includes working primarily in the rip rap department, maintaining and greasing equipment, assisting with plant maintenance, and ensuring customer vehicles are safely loaded. The operator also performs tasks such as cleaning up debris, maintaining cleanliness, running errands for important purchases, and performing pre-shift checks. This position performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the supervisor. Additionally, assists staff with maintenance and repair duties, as required. Operates various heavy equipment to excavate and compact earth, and to move, haul, load, and unload materials. Operates various heavy equipment to load, unload, move, and haul materials at the County’s rock quarry, including dump, and other trucks, excavator, hydraulic shovel, front-end loaders, skid steers, and forklifts. Operates various equipment in the rip rap department to make Class B and C. Uses welding and cutting torches as needed in equipment maintenance. Inspects equipment to ensure proper and safe working conditions, and reports defects or required maintenance to the supervisor. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment. Uses welding and cutting torches as needed in equipment maintenance. Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety. Assists coworkers with various duties as required. Operates crushing plant equipment as needed. Fills in for absent employees and assists in various tasks as needed. Loads customer vehicles and ensures safe loading to maintain customer satisfaction. Maintains and greases the loader. Cleans out debris behind the jaw. Assists in cleaning bathrooms and taking out trash. Works on the plant during failures or malfunctions. Runs errands for important purchases. Performs pre-shift checks on equipment. Assists with crusher maintenance during rebuilds. Searches for flat stackers for resale and boulders to bust for the plant. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Knowledge of the organization's operations, services, and policies. Strong maintenance knowledge. Good welding and cutting skills. Good motor skills. Basic mechanical skills. Good math skills. Ability to interpret and abide by MSHA safety policies. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Required: Valid driver's license. MSHA Miner Training. Preferred: None. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a high-risk environment with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that requires a range of safety and other precautions such as being subject to potential physical violence or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
