Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The R&D B&W Packaging Technologist leads and supports Packaging workstreams for global innovation projects delivering unique, value driven, inclusive and sustainable packaging experiences.
They will be involved in coordinating and managing the technical delivery of plastic, metal, paper and pulp packaging solutions - considering sustainable design and material choices, balancing functional design with brand semiotics, delivering sensorial which enhance the consumer experience whilst managing the demands of the business.
They will support the Packaging Manager in collaborating with the Global Brand VPs and the cross functional stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Packaging Work stream leader with the ability to transform marketing/brand ideas, consumer insights and business needs into excellent packaging solutions.
  • Play an active role in leading and contributing to the Unilever Packaging Strategy and other category activities.
  • Develop and mentor junior members of the team including apprentices and industrial placements.
  • Lead packaging testing activities, understand and interpret results, make recommendations, and build robust specifications.
  • Develop new or existing packaging that meet supply chain, formulation, consumer, brand, regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Manage the relationship with packaging and materials suppliers in the development of packaging solutions
  • Explore disruptive packaging technologies and ideas which will bring new products that enhance consumer experiences.
  • Ensure that all our packaging meet Unilever (UL) and the B&W plastic commitment by 2025
  • Contribute to build a Packaging B&W fearless team spirit with emphasis on wellbeing and collaboration.
