ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Bourgault Industries is looking for a collaborative and forward-thinking Design Engineer to join our Research & Development team in designing and agricultural equipment that meets performance and manufacturability goals. This role supports professional growth in an environment that values creativity, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

As a Design Engineer, you will research, design, and develop new equipment and make improvements to existing products. Your job responsibilities will include:

  • Design and develop agricultural equipment, from concept to prototype.
  • Create detailed CAD models and engineering drawings to support design and fabrication.
  • Perform engineering calculations and FEA to validate design decisions.
  • Lead and support prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing in both shop and field environments.
  • Conduct structured equipment tests, analyze performance data, and refine designs based on results.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless production integration.
  • Communicate with external vendors to specify and source components.
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from dealers and customers to guide product improvements.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation.
  • Manage project timelines, track development progress, and ensure alignment with functional goals.
  • Provide mentorship and contribute to a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture.

The following qualifications will be needed to successfully perform this role:

  • Engineering degree or diploma with a mechanical or agricultural focus (new grads are encouraged to apply).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD tools; experience with FEA software like SolidWorks Simulation Standard.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • Hands-on engineering experience and a good understanding of agricultural equipment and practices.
  • Experience with farming equipment or light industrial machinery is an asset.
  • Passion and knowledge for the agricultural industry and enjoy getting your hands dirty!
  • Familiarity with prototype testing, instrumentation, and data collection.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication and modern manufacturing methods.
  • Effective communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
