MINIMUM EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE

  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Applied Mathematics with 2 years’ experience or PhD degree in the same areas.
  • Excellent understanding of one or more relevant numerical simulation methods in photonics and optoelectronics, such as FDTD and other methods for Maxwell’s equations and methods for semiconductor device simulation.
  • Working experience in technical software development proven by academic, research, or industry projects. Good understanding and skills in object-oriented programming and data structures and algorithms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Technical knowledge and experience with photonic inverse design, adjoint analysis, and optimization methods.
  • Technical knowledge of quantum photonic computing theory is welcome.
  • 2 years’ experience in a large-scale commercial software development environment and modern C++ development.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team.

Responsibilities

SUMMARY / ROLE PURPOSE

The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of simulation software products for photonics and optoelectronics. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish research and development objectives.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs research and development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of simulation methods and software.
  • Understands and employs best practices in simulation methods research and software development.
  • Performs bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by quality assurance or product support teams and develops solutions. Understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria, and competitive issues.
