As a Senior R&D Engineer within Flowserve’s New Product Development team, you are a critical individual contributor. You begin projects by taking customer requirements and turning them into product concepts and specifications. You help provide technical direction to a team of engineers working on innovative new flow control products. Sometimes you perform engineering calculations and create drawings yourself, other times you guide other engineers. You can lead discussions with external partners and suppliers and seek guidance from other internal experts. Your work turns ideas into products.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
  • Degrees in Physics or other fields closely related to pumps or motors may be considered
  • 5 years of experience in flow control industries or motor design or ideally both
  • On-site in Bethlehem, PA (working remotely is acceptable on Fridays)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
  • Self-directed and able to take initiative
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and issues and generate action plans
  • Proficient with CAD tools
  • Proficient with ASME Y14.5 drafting standards and GD&T
  • Safety mindset
  • Experience with centrifugal pump design
  • Experience with ASME Pressure Vessel Code as it relates to pumps, API, DIN design standards and requirements
  • Basic understanding of electric motor design principles
  • Proficient with basic computer skills and Microsoft Office products

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience with SolidWorks
Responsibilities
  • Perform various engineering calculations for pump sizing, pressure vessel code, stresses, pipe sizing, and bearing design among others
  • Write technical specifications and requirements documents
  • Create 3D models
  • Create 2D drawings
  • Check other team members’ drawings
  • Coordinate and lead design reviews with other engineers
  • Provide technical expertise for permanent magnet axial flux motors
  • Define specific engineering tasks required and estimate effort for project planning purposes
  • Communicate status and progress to project management
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers on the team
  • Release engineering data in PDM system
  • Collaborate with the team and provide key input on the dFMEA
  • Determine validation requirements and create test plans
  • Assist and guide prototype product assembly
  • Assist and guide validation testing
  • Review test data
  • Write test reports
  • Prepare product documentation
  • Collaborate with and help resolve issues with suppliers or other partners
  • Occasionally travel (up to 20% usually less, domestic + international) to supplier or customer sites to support validation activities
