Valmet 3D Fiber technology is a disruptive innovation in manufacturing of molded fiber packaging and is targeting to offer sustainable alternative to plastic packaging. The technology is being developed in cooperation with Metsä Spring, an innovation company of Metsä Group, and the project is one of the largest R&D projects in Valmet.
We are looking for an R&D Engineer to execute 3D Fiber related lab and piloting trials and perform different research and development activities. In this role, you have an excellent opportunity to drive greener future in the global packaging markets by optimizing processes and technological solutions for the advanced and highly automated 3D Fiber production line.

REQUIREMENTS TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION

  • An excellent academic record with a relevant Master’s degree in Paper, Process or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong understanding of molded fiber thermoforming products and process requirements
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in demanding R&D projects
  • Proactive and independent way of working and capability to prioritize, react and adapt to quick changes
  • Readiness for hands-on-work and practical research & development
  • Capability to work in a multicultural matrix organization with multidisciplinary teams
  • Fluency in Finnish and English

These are considered as an advantage for the applicant:

  • Previous knowledge/experience of Valmet DNA
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies and materials
  • Developmental attitude & problem-solving skills
  • Experience from lab and pilot operations or site work
  • Experience of repetitive or batch type of manufacturing processes

The location for this position is in Jyväskylä but it also requires regular travelling and working in our pilot facility in Äänekoski, Finland and lab machine in VTT Jyväskylä.

Responsibilities
  • Develop 3D Fiber tooling and its performance
  • Plan and execute lab trials together with our research partners to drive swift technology development
  • Lead selected tooling related research and product development projects in cooperation of Valmet inhouse experts and partners
  • Support trials in 3D Fiber pilot facility
  • Analyze trial results and create reports for spot-on conclusions
  • Innovate, solve process related problems and find new solutions
