SUMMARY

Responsible for the formulation development of innovative, quality, cost effective food solutions to meet our customers’ needs accurately and responsively in accordance with the company’s R&D mission statement. Must be experienced in meat formulation and working knowledge of meat grinders, stuffers etc. for preparing finished product samples.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 or more years of experience in the formulation of all types of meat products and production.
  • A degree in Food Science or a related discipline, with a minimum of two years’ experience relevant to food product development, or equivalent.
  • Can work effectively in a team environment with minimal direct supervision.
  • Familiarization with GMP, HACCP and quality systems an asset.
  • Good communication, multi-tasking and computer skills.
  • No known food allergy or dietary restrictions that would limit the ability to taste food systems developed.
  • Identifies and recommends solutions to correct quality deficiencies.
  • Ensures required confidentiality is always maintained.
  • Must be able to lift 22.68 kg. weight.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages projects for a customer base.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of meat equipment and meat pilot plant.
  • Duplicates, modifies and/or develops seasonings, dry batter mixes and/or breaders by conducting any analytical tests found on specifications of Newly Weds Foods and/or competitive products and by formulating, applying and testing at bench level.
  • Performs with a minimum of direct supervision including the determination of his/her own project priorities.
  • Understands and applies computer tools (word processing, spreadsheets, project and formula management systems).
  • Arrange for the make-up of product samples and evaluate them before shipping or make-up samples as required. Make up finished product samples. Arranges for pilot plant use as required.
  • Sources and evaluates ingredients; obtains all appropriate documentation and sets specifications for them.
  • Continue learning about ingredients and finished product functionality through literature search, meeting with suppliers and/or customers, joining in on supplier and/or customer presentations and Newly Weds Foods in-house training programs, any pertinent off-site seminars, schooling, customer visits, etc.
  • Develops a positive working relationship with customers, both externally and internally, as directed. Assures customer satisfaction through professional communications with customers, suppliers, and Newly Weds Foods employees including sales, production, customer service, alternate plant facilities, etc.
  • Employ professionally written correspondence including sample letters, technical reports, memos, etc.
  • Conducts product demonstrations.
  • Enters formula and specifications into the computer system.
  • Works with production during the manufacturing of new products and conducts QC checks on them.
  • Travels to customers, alternate plant sites, conventions, seminars, etc.
  • Maintains an organized workplace and accurate project files.
  • Complies with Newly Weds Foods corporate personnel policies and R&D standards & procedures.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform other various similar and related duties as required by the Manager or Senior Scientist.
