Job Description: Support Research Scientists conduct research projects/experiments that support Fire Safety. The R&D Laboratory Technician position will report to the R&D Manager. Will work closely with other laboratory staff, departments and agency technical staff.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • BS degree in Chemistry or related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three years of laboratory experience
  • Minimum one year experience as a team leader
  • Experience providing support to researchers
  • Self-motivated
  • Possess the skills necessary to facilitate collaboration and enhance productivity
  • Experience in coordinating daily laboratory activities
  • Excellent laboratory skills
  • Working knowledge of data collection processes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with good judgment and the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and contribute to a team setting Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
Responsibilities
  • Assist Research personnel with product development of Fire Safety Products
  • Perform laboratory tests according to written procedures
  • Document and report all testing results and observations and support team as appropriate
  • Maintain safe lab environment including the cleaning & maintenance of lab facility and equipment
  • Clean up lab spills, dispose of lab samples, raw materials, and lab chemicals in compliance with lab safety and environmental regulations
  • Perform safety checks as required
  • Receive, organize, inspect, and uniquely identify incoming test samples
  • Maintains laboratory instruments to ensure all are in good working condition and are calibrated
  • Prepare solutions as assigned
  • Maintain and order lab supplies as needed
  • Must be able to travel
  • Participate in ISO audits
  • Perform other duties as assigned
