Requirements OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: The R&D Laboratory Technician is responsible for the testing, documentation and reporting of experiments performed on laboratory test rigs and prototype boilers and combustion systems. In addition, the position requires a high level of initiative when it comes to trouble shooting and problem solving. Lab technicians will need to work as an integral part of a team with the ultimate goal of designing, testing, and releasing new products to market. The R&D Lab technician also performs cross departmental testing to support quality, service and manufacturing. ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1) Perform laboratory build-up, experimentation, and documentation of results and procedures. Build test rigs, wire units, and install instrumentation. Perform tests with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Document test results and communicate findings clearly to responsible parties. 2) Demonstrate knowledge of lab equipment and products. 3) Troubleshoot a wide variety of issues (e.g., combustion, electrical, and controls). 4) Act as an excellent teammate in the lab by collaborating with other parties who use the lab. 5) Participate in lab maintenance tasks, including equipment updates, system preventive maintenance (PM), and 5S activities. QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Certifications and Required Experience): 1) Required: Associates degree in technical area or 5 years in the heating or similar industry 2) Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft products to organize and report test results 3) Basic understanding of electrical and controls systems 4) Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving to provide insight into system issues before problems develop. 5) Diligence to complete challenging tasks involving final assembly build-up of a lab test rigs 6) Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and test equipment 7) Ability to work independently and safely. This is very important in a boiler development lab. 8) Excellent organizational and communication skills are a must.
