JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an innovative and skilled Design and R&D Engineer to join our team focused on developing cutting-edge wood burning stoves. This role will involve the design, testing, and continuous improvement of wood, multifuel, gas and electric appliances, ensuring manufacturing efficiency, product safety. The successful candidate will work within the engineering, product design, and manufacturing teams to bring new stove designs to life and optimise existing products for manufacture.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

· Experienced SolidWorks user desirable, other CAD systems considered
· 2D production drawings, and standard operating procedures
· Design jigs and fixtures to aid production processes
· Machine Programming – Nesting for Laser cutting (Amada), Press Brake offline programming (Amada), generation of CNC tool paths (VCarve)
· Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical products.
· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in design and testing.
· Excel
· Adobe CS

Responsibilities
  • Product Design: Develop detailed concepts, prototypes, and full-scale designs for new wood burning stove models. Focus on user-friendly features, aesthetic appeal, and manufacturability.
  • R&D and Innovation: Conduct research to integrate new technologies, materials, and design methodologies for improving stove efficiency, heat output, and combustion performance.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Build, test, and iterate prototypes. Conduct performance and safety testing, including testing to BS EN 16510 for residential solid fuel burning appliances
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., business leaders, manufacturing engineers, suppliers) to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet industry standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure designs comply with local and international regulations and environmental standards for emissions and safety.
  • Materials Selection: Research and choose optimal materials that balance durability, cost, environmental impact, and aesthetics.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously identify and implement process improvements in stove design and manufacturing to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Customer Feedback: Analyse feedback from customers and field data to identify areas for improvement in existing models and suggest updates or redesigns.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare design documents, technical specifications, and reports for internal review and regulatory compliance. Maintain proper records of research findings and test results.
