OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Packaging R&D Engineer II for General Mills. The position involves providing packaging leadership as part of the packaging team for an operating unit within General Mills. The role will include work across innovation, core renovation, and Holistic Margin Management (HMM, cost savings).

  • Innovation – new formats, sizes, and capabilities for pipeline sufficiency on a packaging-driven or new businesses
  • Core Renovation – business maintenance and quality improvements
  • HMM – Holistic Margin Management (cost savings) – contribute to the HMM pipeline and execute HMM projects

This job posting is created for multiple openings across our Meals & Baking Business & Morning Foods Business. This application will be considered across each of the openings in our organization and will balance individual role preferences with business needs when making offers to candidates.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead packaging R&D applications for the platform as assigned
  • Develop packaging solutions with:
  • Knowledge of product/packaging interactions and results on product protection through shelf life
  • Knowledge of designing for distribution, channel, and customer requirements
  • Ability to understand and apply machine material interactions through the design process
  • Knowledge of packaging material testing for specification creation and troubleshooting
  • Consumer First Design lens as related to packaging moments of truth
  • Drive package development and project execution of Innovation, Core Renovation, Cost-Savings, and Sustainability, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders such as Marketing, Sales, Product Research & Development, Quality, Operations, Logistics, Sourcing, and Finance
  • Lead new packaging startups across our manufacturing locations (internally and externally)
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects with executional excellence, speed, and agility, managing technical and business needs
  • Work within specification, graphics, and pallet design programs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging, Engineering, Material Science, or related degree
  • 3+ yrs of related work experience in a packaging-related role
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking
  • Passion for experimentation and creating new possibilities thinking
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time
