Job Description Develop and implement R&D strategies and project plans that align with the company’s strategic objectives and market demands. Manage the R&D project lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility analysis through development, testing, and final product launch. Set project goals, timelines, and budgets, ensuring timely and cost-effective execution of all R&D projects. Lead, mentor, and motivate the R&D team, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Conduct regular performance reviews, identify development needs, and provide training or career growth opportunities for team members. Foster cross-functional collaboration with other departments, such as marketing, engineering, and production, to ensure successful product development and alignment with company goals. Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and competitor activities to inform research priorities and product innovation. Oversee testing protocols, quality checks, and validation processes to ensure that products meet both internal standards and regulatory requirements. Prepare and manage the R&D department’s budget, ensuring that all projects are executed within budgetary constraints Maintain accurate records of research processes, project milestones, and results to ensure transparency and facilitate knowledge sharing. Generate reports and presentations on R&D progress, findings, and recommendations for senior management. Prepare and present data to support funding requests, project updates, and strategic planning sessions Sustainable Practices and Environmental Compliance: In alignment with ISO 14001, the R&D Manager is responsible for integrating sustainability principles into product development. This involves exploring alternative materials and processes that minimize environmental impact while maintaining product performance. They must ensure that all research activities comply with environmental regulations and contribute to Sika Kenya's commitment to reducing waste and resource consumption. Health and Safety Integration: Under ISO 45001, the R&D Manager is tasked with incorporating health and safety considerations into the research and development processes. This includes conducting risk assessments related to new product formulations, ensuring that safety protocols are followed during laboratory work, and promoting a culture of safety within the R&D team to prevent workplace incidents while fostering innovation Develop, implement, and maintain quality control policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Establish quality objectives, targets, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the effectiveness of the QC program. Create and update quality documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), inspection guidelines, and quality manuals. Lead, train, and mentor a team of quality control inspectors, technicians, and analysts, promoting best practices in quality control. Set performance goals, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide coaching and development opportunities for team members. Qualifications About You: Master's degree or equivalent experience in engineering, Materials chemistry. A passion for technology and genuine curiosity about how things work, a drive to explore new methods and improve machine performance with a hands-on approach. Experience in one or more of the following areas: automation, vision systems, photonics, optics or spectroscopy. Strong analytical mindset with a methodical approach to problem-solving. Excellent communication and presentation skills. A team player who thrives in working with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing and quality assurance. Able to work effectively in an international and culturally diverse working environment. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for prototype validation.
