About the Role As a result of growth in our Commercial Research and Development (R&D) team, we have a great opportunity available for an experienced R&D Scientist at our ALS site based in Hamilton. Supporting clients from NZ, Australia and abroad in their research, product development, compliance, and safety programmes, we service a diverse range of market sectors including honey, dairy, environmental, food production, nutraceutical, and research testing services. Working as part of a team of scientists, you will: Liaise with clients to understand their challenges Investigate potential analytical solutions and write quotations Develop & validate methods using state-of-the-art LC-MS/MS, LC-HRMS, HPLC, IC, and GCMS equipment, to the required standard Analyse a diverse range of samples, supported by a team of experienced technicians, and prepare reports intended for clients and regulatory submissions. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage your time well, and work without supervision, to deliver projects successfully. What we’re looking for: An experienced scientist, who fits with our supportive and enthusiastic team culture, who shares our values of technical excellence, customer service, honesty, curiosity, resilience and teamwork Postgraduate science qualification, or equivalent experience in a relevant life science 5+ years’ experience in a commercial analytical testing laboratory, or similar science and technology organization, with a demonstrated record of innovation, creativity, and efficiency Experience in application of science and technology to meet customer needs in a quality environment. Ability to present project results and outcomes to diverse audiences Experience with modern analytical chemistry testing equipment – including (but not limited to) chromatography and mass spectroscopy A confident user of computers and software - spreadsheets, word processing, LIMS software, instrument software A person with good communication skills, interpersonal skills, and work ethic, who is valued by colleagues as a team member; Self-motivated, and able to independently carry out all phases of a project, from customer enquiry, through to presentation of results, to a high standard, and to ask for help at any point if this is needed to deliver expected results; Has a strong commercial and customer focus, recognizing the importance of delivering good outcomes to customers, as well as timely communication of difficulties or delays Thrives under pressure, and is able to manage multiple projects with competing priorities Working at ALS The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.
