Overview:
An R&D Calibration Technician, under limited supervision and/or detailed procedures/work instructions, safely performs a variety of mechanical and calibration tasks in support of R&D projects. Work involves installation, modification, preventive and corrective maintenance of R&D mechanical systems and measurement and test equipment (M&TE).
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to NETL SARS policies and procedures while conducting work duties.
- Use Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) and Instrument Index to install threaded and flanged piping and to locate and service M&TE.
- Calibrate M&TE used to measure pressure, temperature, vibration, speed, voltage, current, frequency, and flow. Troubleshoot complex measurement problems using Hart communicators, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, digital multimeters, and logic analyzers, etc.
- Identify a third-party entity to obtain a quote and arrange shipment for instruments that are not able to be calibrated on site.
- Use ProCal software to create an instrument record, develop a test case, and record DUT measurements. Perform complex calculations relating to signal measurement and measurement uncertainty.
- Installation of Swagelok fractional tubing, insulation, and tubing components such as valves, regulators, and gauges.
- Installation of Autoclave Engineers cone and threaded tubing and tubing components
- Set up and perform pneumatic and hydrostatic pressure testing.
- Perform non-code welding to fabricate or repair non-critical items and provide custom sheet metal forming/work.
- Use machine shop equipment such as an Horizontal / Vertical Bandsaw, electronic belt sander, and metal shear to cut metal.
- Performs compressed gas cylinder deliveries.
- Perform penetrations and securing materials to assemble/erect structures, all per policy.
- Perform hoisting and rigging of large equipment.
- Identify stock material needs such as fasteners, strut, or sheet metal, then track location and quantity.
- Operate forklift, manlifts, skid steer loader, etc.
- Use Lock-out Tag-out (LOTO) plans to ensure work is performed safely.
- Maintaining facilities in clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members to resolve issues such as suggesting modifications to procedures and refining practices to ensure quality adherence principles and objectives are being met.
- Work safely with systems operating at levels up to 480 volts.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM POSITION KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Vocational/technical training beyond high school
- Minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience or equivalent including process M&TE calibration.
- Ability to understand Engineering drawings and documents that will allow for the safe and efficient installation of projects.
- Experienced using ProCal or similar calibration management software.
- Must be able to pass the NETL Swagelok certification test. (Company training will be provided.
- Computer / Software Skills – proficiently utilizing Microsoft Outlook email, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, payroll time entry, and complete required online training.
- Good attendance, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team or independently.
- Ability to follow oral / written instructions, exercise good judgement to complete assignments on time.
- Work safely under limited supervision, exercise good judgement, and manage time to complete assignments.
