We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.JOB SUMMARY The Racing Official position is responsible for performing multiple functions in the Racing Operation. The candidate must have experience in multiple positions pertaining to the Racing department operation including, but not limited to, Entry Clerk, Stakes Coordinator, Claims Clerk, Placing Judge, and Participation in the Entry Draw Process.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Entry Clerk:· Enter horses into races offered by the Racing Secretary for each live racing card by computer, in-person, via phone/text, etc.· Verify accuracy of Entry information· Determine eligibility and starting requirements· Solicit entries from Trainers and Authorized Agents when requiredEntry-Draw Process:· Enter entry information into database using RTO-Incompass system· Participate in the Entry Draw process· Enter and compile entry information into Incompass system· Generate, produce, and verify accuracy of daily information· Distribute information necessary individuals, outlets, and departmentsPlacing Judge:Enter information during live race and communicate to Tote Board and TV room· Determine order of finish for all horses in race· Examine photo finishes and process outcomes on the electronic tote board· Communicate with Stewards, Mutual Manager’s office, Bookkeeper, Equibase· Post unofficial/official results accurately to Tote board · Communicate results, inquiries, objections with Mutual Department, Stewards, and  Track Announcer· Disseminate entire live racing card results to Bookkeeper and Media OutletsVerify accuracy of information on Claim Envelope and Claim Slip· Verify current funds of Horseperson claiming a race horse· Communicate with Stewards, Bookkeeper, Equibase, and Clerk of Scales· Properly manage and store sensitive information and documents related to ClaimsMiscellaneous· Perform other duties as assigned by the Racing Secretary· Stay informed on all ongoing/upcoming promotions· Possess knowledge of thoroughbred and thoroughbred racing· Communicate with Horse Owners, Horse Trainers,REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be able to obtain a Louisiana Racing Commission license.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Previous experience in the racing industry · Computer experience required; experience working in a racing office preferred· Maintains interpersonal working relationships among personnel and the public· Excellent oral and written communication skillsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
