JOB SUMMARY

The Radiation Therapy Assistant performs patient care and helps with radiation therapy procedures. This is done for ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or licensed provider. The assistant works under the direct supervision of the Radiation Therapist. The RT Assistant aids in patient positioning. Additional duties include inventory and storage of supplies and cleaning treatment rooms for the next patient.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience
Responsibilities
  • Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position.
  • Under direct supervision of a Radiation Therapists, maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • Utilized AIDET to communicate with patients. Identified patient service requirements. Ensured the correct exam is performed on the correct patient. Established rapport with patients and their family about the treatment.
  • Maintains patient and staff confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains a clean and serviceable work environment to enhance patient care.
  • Wears personal monitoring device on collar and submits it promptly and regularly for assessment of occupational dosage.
  • Protects patients and employees by following safety, infection control, drug, and radiation policies, protocols, and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques when setting up.
  • Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment operation. Reports issues to management or the appropriate department.
  • Maintains supplies inventory and treatment rooms stocked.
  • Ensures people are safe to enter the department by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Reports any loss, damage, or unusual events associated with personal monitoring device immediately to the Radiation Safety Office.
  • Diligently observes patient, recognizes changes in condition and seeks appropriate help.
