Annual Salary: $50,544.00 - $54,073.50 Hourly: $25.92 - $27.73 Department: Police, Public Safety Division: Police Administrative Services FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Description: This role will perform a range of skilled tasks related to the technical support of two-way radio systems, installation, repair and preventative maintenance as well as supporting the communication readiness of the City's emergency operations centers. Examples of Duties: In this position, you will: Install, remove, and maintain two way radios, sirens, lightbars, flasher modules, Mobile Data Terminals and antennas in emergency vehicles. Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner. Enter, delete, and amend work orders for vehicle and radio equipment changes in the city's online database. Update radio tracking database to ensure radio accountability, write reports and use various computer software programs to accomplish all assigned tasks. Program Motorola two-way radios using Windows and DOS based software programs. Provide communication related support to the Emergency Operations Center and Incident Command during storm events or other emergency type situations. Assist in the coordination and development of communication plans as needed to support various city and state wide special events and have knowledge in the (ICS) Incident Command process. Oversees the repair of faulty equipment such as mobile and portable radios, base repeaters, security equipment and other electronic equipment to ensure operational readiness by utilizing various testing methods repair techniques. Provide technical support to Fire Department and various city departments that require assistance in radio and public address system issues. Performs other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: Associate's degree (AA/AS) or equivalent combination of education and experience 2 years of experience related to the installation, repair and maintenance of equipment relating to public safety vehicles Strong understanding and working knowledge in the process of two-way radio programming, template writing, tuning and performing software updates on Motorola P25 Public Safety Radios on the APX series radios. Knowledge in installation, maintenance and repair of two-way radio equipment. Proficient in the use of a communication system analyzer, electrical circuit troubleshooting and use of various meters. Knowledge of vehicle wiring, shielding and proper grounding techniques. Knowledge in electronic troubleshooting techniques and best practices. Familiar with OTAP and other radio programming features. Valid driver’s license. Knowledge of DOS and Windows OS. Other Necessary Requirements: In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs. May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
