POSITION SUMMARY   Provides support to the physician performing invasive Cardiovascular procedures.  Ensures quality control of all equipment and performs special procedures involving the injection of intravenous contrast such as angiograms, coronary as well as peripheral biopsies, angioplasties, stenting, etc. Integrates well with physicians and nurses and has responsibility for emergency call. RESPONSIBILITIES *     *                     *                 1. Performs a variety of duties to prepare unit for cardiac catheterization or other invasive as well as non-invasive procedures. * Prepares sterile trays for invasive procedures. * Ensures all instrumentation/equipment for each procedure is presented on the table in the established fashion.  2. Prepares patient for invasive diagnostic procedures.  * Admits patient by entering data into computer system. * Ensures patients are correctly prepped and draped in a sterile fashion. * Responds to patient’s questions alleviating concerns regarding procedure. 3. Performs various duties during catheterization procedure. * Monitors patient during procedure, i.e., electrocardiogram, blood pressure, chest pain.  May administer oxygen and nitroglycerin, as needed, under direct supervision of physician performing procedure.  * Collects all pertinent diagnostic data and all necessary calculations for physician’s interpretation of results. Correctly balances, calibrates and records appropriate hemodynamic data.  Performs blood gas determinations using oximeter method while handling blood in a safe and appropriate manner.  4. Intervenes in cardiopulmonary emergencies effectively. * Assists in handling emergencies until physician takes over. * Interacts with health care team appropriately.  5. Performs laboratory test procedures within established criteria. 6. Operates all cardiac equipment properly in a reliable manner, per departmental standards, complying with all safety guidelines/policies. 7. May perform various x-ray exams if qualified licensed Radiology Technologist, as necessary. 8. Performs related duties, as required.               *ADA Essential Functions REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS   1. Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology program, required.  2. New York State and/or Connecticut Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required. 3. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration, required. 4.
