Description Job Summary: To perform radiologic procedures and utilize x-ray equipment to produce images of the body for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases or injuries, while ensuring optimum patient care and safety. Education & Experience Certifications, licenses or registration required: Mississippi Radiologic Technologist license by hire date. BLS required within 90 days of hire date. American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) registration must be obtained within 6 months of hire date. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, radiation physics and protection, and the principles of imaging. Skill in the use of imaging equipment. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to comply with radiation protection practices. Ability to alleviate patient anxiety. Responsibilities Performs radiographic procedures to produce images of internal body organs and bones. Explains procedures to patient, obtains and records medical history relevant to the condition being viewed, selects appropriate equipment settings, and positions the patient in a manner to facilitate optimum imaging results. Views images to determine quality and forwards for review and interpretation; maintains applicable patient documentation. Maintains adequate supplies and a clean work area; reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor. Assumes responsibility for patient safety; provides physical and psychological comfort to patient. Ensures compliance with workplace safety, environmental, exposure control, and/or infection control practices. Physical and Environmental Demands Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, constant bending, constant lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, constant crouching/stooping, frequent kneeling, frequent pushing/pulling, constant reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking.
