CAD Railway Industries is an ambitious Quebec company, in operation for more than 60 years, specializing in the repair, conversion and reconditioning of rolling railway equipment. Our Calgary site, Caltrax Inc, is the leading full service railcar repair service facility in Western Canada. In business since 1991, we won multiple Top 50 Small and Medium Business Award in recent years. The site is 125,000 sq ft and has a capacity for 180 rail cars onsite for either mechanical, cleaning/blasting and/or painting work.
Caltrax is busy and looking to add Railcar Repair Mechanics (Carman) to the team. This role is responsible for the maintenance of railcars in accordance with AAR Regulations.

Along with some welding experience, this position requires a mechanical aptitude to perform maintenance repairs on railcars. Must be able to read and understand blueprints and work orders with a precise ability to implement written instructions. Repairs may occur in confined spaces and from heights with a focus on safety at all times.

  • Perform scheduled and on demand maintenance as per written instruction
  • Remove and replace defective components on rolling stock (trucks, shoes, coupler assemblies, air brake systems)
  • Safely and effectively operate various power and hand tools, acetylene torches, electric and gas welding equipment, etc
  • Read, understand, and interpret information from work orders, implementing as intended
  • Communicate procedural information verbally and in writing providing accurate record of repairs
  • Maintain safe work habits at all times
  • Perform troubleshooting and problem solving independently
  • Ensure work meets regulatory requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Mechanic, repair experience required
  • Previous welding experience however journeyman ticket not required
  • Confined Space Entry and Fall Arrest experience an asset
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Able to perform work independently
