Job Summary: The Observer will perform observation for activities around live railroad tracks and are responsible for job site coordination, dispatcher/train communication and ensuring all work being conducted is being done so in a manner that will not foul or effect the tracks in anyway. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Provide the required jobsite protection on each assignment, error free and consistent with the rules; including but not limited to radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers Perform daily job briefings with all personnel on-site, ensuring compliance with railroad safety requirements Prepare and submit required electronic forms, including but not limited to: job set-up forms for each flagging assignment, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as required Actively participate in routine reoccurring safety classes and qualification training Maintain high levels of communication with the RWIC supervisors and managers regarding various assignments and schedules Ensure all work is conducted out of the foul of the tracks Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture, free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational values Uphold the organization’s standards of integrity, accountability, and respect in all duties and interactions Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations Other duties assigned or required to meet their business needs Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Able to complete required physical demands and/or task Proficient in the radio procedure for communication Proficient in performing job briefings with all the roadway workers within their work location Proficiency with electronic communications including e-mail and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite) Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) A minimum of 5 years in railroad maintenance of way (MOW) experience, within a Class I or Class II freight railroad. Employment is contingent upon the successful outcome of pre-employment and recurring background checks, and drug and alcohol testing, as well as classroom and field training, including assessments. Successful completion of all onboarding and recurring training requirements is mandatory for continued employment. Preferred Education and Experience: 5 - 10 years of experience in railroad maintenance of way (MOW) experience, within a Class I or Class II freight railroad. Prior experience working within a railway company Training in railway “Track Inspection Guidelines” or equivalent Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc.: NS - OBSRV On-Track Worker and Operating Rules Why RailPros?
