VIA Rail Canada Inc., Canada’s national passenger rail service is currently seeking 2 Railway Car Technicians (also known as Heavy Duty Mechanics or ‘Carmen’) to work at it’s Toronto Maintenance Center, located in Mimico.

We are seeking two seriously committed team-players to work at the Toronto Maintenance Center, located in Mimico.

DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and test rail car equipment and locomotives.
  • Perform preventive maintenance work
  • General maintenance on: seats, toilets, tables, sinks, blinds, panels, windows, etc.
  • Servicing major components of the train: wheelsets, couplers, springs, brake rigging etc.
  • Work from blueprints
  • Use hand tools and various testing devices and instruments
  • Must be available to work various shifts, weekends, Statutory holidays and work outdoors in adverse weather
  • Must pass internal training and assessments within the probationary period.
  • The job involves working indoors/out doors in all weather conditions.
  • The job may required sitting, standing, Kneeling ,bending and stretching for extended period of time.

Schedule:

  • Permanent position;
  • 40 hours per week guaranteed;
  • 10 H shifts/4 days or 8 H shifts/5 days; may change depending on workload;
  • The work schedule may vary: day, night, week-end and holidays;
  • Over-time is available.

Salary:
Hourly salary: $42.49/H
Evening shift differential: $1.50/H
Night shift differential: $2.00/H

Requirements :

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate of Qualification as Railway Car Technician 268R or combination of education, training and experience with minimum of 4 years of equivalent experience in the rail industry.
  • Experience in one of these trades is an asset: Heavy-Duty Mechanic, Millwrighting, Plumbing, Tinning or Welding/Fabrication.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrated mechanical inclination
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and walk on rough terrain
