Description

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

For the past 47 years, Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut (LVCC) has served thousands of residents across 15 towns in Central Connecticut.
LVCC’s vision is to live in a world where everyone has the literacy skills to thrive. The organization assists adults who lack literacy skills, with a majority of our students being English language learners.
Our goal is to provide individualized instruction and support for adults and families seeking to improve their lives through literacy. Our learners work toward a variety of goals—gaining employment, becoming U.S. citizens, helping their children in school, pursuing higher education, and achieving greater independence.
LVCC empowers adult learners by providing English literacy and language skills that are essential for economic opportunity and strong family engagement.

POSITION OVERVIEW

LVCC seeks a motivated and community-oriented Raise a Reader Program Coordinator to lead our newest early literacy initiative. Raise a Reader is designed to foster school readiness and family literacy by engaging parents and caregivers of children ages birth to five. The program equips families with high-quality multicultural books and interactive reading strategies that can be easily used at home.
The Program Coordinator will lead parent engagement sessions, distribute weekly rotating book bags, and build lasting relationships with families and local partners. This position requires strong community outreach skills and a commitment to supporting families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
A key component of the program is our partnership with the New Britain Public Library, which will serve as a hub for program activities. The Coordinator will be instrumental in connecting families to the library and helping create a culture of reading and learning in the community.
