Description

The primary role of the Ramp Operator is to assist in general logistics related to air operations in Punta Arenas, Chile. This role handles works as part of a team preparing cargo, fueling drums, working in a warehouse, loading, and unloading aircraft, and supervising passenger boarding and departing.
Antarctic LogisticsExpeditions (ALE) is the most experienced deep-field operator in Antarctica, providing a wide range of guided experiences, air support, logistical back-up and safety cover for governmental research programs, independent expeditions, and tourists. ALE is a Utah company with a year-round office in Salt Lake City, a seasonal operations support office in Punta Arenas, Chile, and several seasonal field camps in Antarctica.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to stay positive while working holidays or long varied hours while under pressure
  • Ability to perform a physically demanding role
  • Be proactive and problem solve, but not afraid to ask for help when necessary
  • Excellent health, safety, and risk management skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have an A, B, and D Driver’s License and have previous experience working in a physically demanding job.
Preferred qualifications include previous airport work experience, dangerous goods certification, dangerous goods driver’s license certification, competent with technology, and a basic understanding of written and spoken English.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare loads in a warehouse for flights from Punta Arenas, Chile to Union Glacier, Antarctica
  • Move loads, baggage, or other materials to and from the warehouse to aircraft platform by hand or by driving ground handling equipment
  • Load and unload baggage and cargo on aircraft
  • Fueling of fuel drums and liaising with fuel company employees
  • Responsible for safely handling passenger boarding and departing
  • Presents paperwork to Chilean Customs and Aviation Security
  • Transporting aircrew to aircraft
  • Driving of equipment to tug the aircraft to the runway and to transfer cargo throughout the airside
  • Record tasks completed, baggage and cargo movements, and complete other warehouse storage documents
  • Follow safety rules and regulations for all work areas
  • Support aircraft crew and other ALE staff as needed
