Mō te tūranga | About the role As a Ranger – Heritage & Visitors, you’ll play a key role in protecting natural and cultural heritage while ensuring visitors have a safe, positive experience on Taranaki Maunga. Your primary focus will be hands on maintenance and field work across the Taranaki Crossing and surrounding facilities. The position will be focussed on: Carrying out day to day maintenance of tracks, structures, huts, signs, and visitor facilities Supporting the delivery of planned upgrades and ongoing asset improvement Monitoring visitor sites to ensure safety, accessibility, and environmental protection Assisting with heritage and conservation work where needed Working with partners, mana whenua, contractors, and community groups Responding to issues on the ground and contributing to visitor education This role involves regular field work in alpine and variable weather conditions, so a good level of fitness and experience working outdoors is essential. If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you: A positive attitude with a strong desire to learn, grow, and develop as a ranger and contribute across multiple projects Experience in outdoor maintenance, construction, track work, or asset management Practical skills with tools and machinery A health and safety mindset and awareness of field risks Good relationship-building skills and the ability to work with diverse groups Full NZ driver licence (preferred); 4WD skills an advantage Experience working in conservation, recreation management, or with iwi partners is desirable but not essential.
