Mō te tūranga | About the role As a Ranger / Project Lead Community (Statutory) you’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across district and national teams to ensure our statutory and community work is connected, consistent, and impactful. You’ll lead statutory processes and provide high quality advice that supports meaningful conservation outcomes across the region. You’ll assess Permission applications, interpret and apply conservation legislation, contribute to Resource Management Act (RMA) processes, and offer well-reasoned advice to managers and decision-makers. Alongside your statutory work, you’ll help strengthen DOC’s relationships with Treaty partners, concessionaires and community conservation groups. The position will be focussed on: Ensuring our statutory and community work in the region is connected, consistent and impactful Build and maintain relationships with Treaty partners, community groups, and concessionaires Lead and deliver statutory and community work programmes Collaborate with technical experts and district teams Manage complex concession relationships Mentor colleagues and support capability building across the team Represent DOC in cross agency and community engagement initiatives Click here for the Role Description The role is preferably based in Picton or Renwick, though Nelson may be considered for a suitable candidate. As the role focuses on the Marlborough region, overnight travel to Marlborough will be required. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you: Experience working in a statutory or regulatory environment, ideally with community engagement Understanding of conservation and resource management legislation (such as the Conservation Act, Wildlife Act, Reserves Act, Resource Management Act etc), and the ability to interpret and apply policy and planning documents Excellent communication and relationship skills Analytical and critical thinking skills, with clear and concise writing ability Experience planning and delivering medium complexity projects A tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in resource or environmental management, or legal studies A current full New Zealand driver licence If you have the passion and capability to lead statutory work and support community outcomes — even if you don’t meet every requirement — we’d love to hear from you.
