The City of Penticton is looking to fill the full-time temporary (35 hours a week, 18 months) position of RCMP Occurrence/Information Officer in our RCMP Detachment. The mission of the Penticton RCMP is to serve and protect the community, and work in partnership with the community to deliver a responsive and progressive police service. The RCMP promote respect for rights and freedoms, the law and democratic traditions, and treat all people equally and with respect in accordance with the RCMP’s core values.
Reporting to the RCMP Municipal Operations Manager, the RCMP Occurrence/Information Officer is responsible for reception and switchboard operation. These duties include receiving complaints from the public, interpretation and explanation of rules, regulations and processes, conducting Police Information Checks, electronic fingerprinting and receipt of found property and evidence.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS:

  • Possesses accurate keyboarding at a minimum speed of 40 wpm.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work competently in CPIC, JUSTIN and PRIME BC.
  • Be familiar with the Criminal Code of Canada, federal statutes, provincial acts and regulations as well as municipal bylaws.
  • Be familiar with the National Firearms Manual (transport, safe use and storage).
  • Be familiar with Motor Vehicle Accident investigation procedures.
  • Working knowledge of community based policing and priority response.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

  • Completed secondary education and have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a Canadian police force as a Peace Officer, or a related component of the Canadian Judicial System, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as recognized by the City of Penticton.
  • Must have and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
  • Experienced with electronic fingerprinting, receiving statements, securing evidence, court procedures and the rules of evidence
  • Previous experience with Disclosure Rules
  • Experience working with various RCMP reference manuals including Operational, Administration, Informatics, CPIC and PRIME BC.
