Description Location: Bronx, NY Reports to: Chief Operating Officer Hourly Rate: $19 – $21 per hour Summary: The Yemeni American Merchants Association (YAMA) is a community-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Yemeni-American merchants, their families, and the broader immigrant community across New York City. Through education, advocacy, and capacity-building programs, YAMA works to strengthen small businesses and uplift communities. We are seeking a friendly, professional, and organized Receptionist to join our team. This individual will serve as the first point of contact for visitors and callers, ensuring a welcoming, efficient, and supportive environment at YAMA’s offices. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a passion for helping others. Job Description: The Receptionist provides front-desk and administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations. This position is essential in maintaining YAMA’s professional image and supporting staff, clients, and visitors through excellent customer service and administrative efficiency. Key Responsibilities: Front Desk & Administrative Support: Greet visitors, answer inquiries, and direct individuals to the appropriate staff or department. Answer and route phone calls, emails, and messages in a professional and timely manner. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area. Assist with scheduling appointments, meetings, and room reservations. Manage incoming and outgoing mail, deliveries, and office supplies inventory. Support office operations by organizing files, updating contact lists, and maintaining databases. Client & Program Support: Provide general information about YAMA’s programs and services. Assist walk-in clients in completing intake forms or connecting with caseworkers. Ensure client confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Support staff with administrative tasks related to workshops, events, and program coordination. Office Coordination: Maintain calendars for shared spaces and staff meetings. Assist in preparing materials for meetings, trainings, and community events. Help coordinate logistics for office visitors, volunteers, and vendors. Report maintenance or safety issues to management as needed. Other Duties: Provide administrative support to the Chief Operating Officer and department leads as requested. Perform additional duties that support the mission and smooth operations of YAMA. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree preferred. Minimum of one year of experience in an office, reception, or administrative role. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Friendly and professional demeanor with a strong sense of discretion. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic database systems. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment. Bilingual (Arabic and English) a strong plus. Familiarity with nonprofit or community-based work is preferred.
