Job Details Job Location: YMCA Family Services - Holtsville, NY 11742 Salary Range: $16.00 - $21.00 Hourly Job Shift: All POSITION SUMMARY: The Peer Advocate will be responsible to provide peer support services in the engagement of prospective and enrolled patients in substance abuse treatment. facilitating outreach with individuals currently in a program or considering treatment. Utilizing their recovery expertise, professional training and lived experience, peers boost individuals' engagement in treatment and commitment to recovery. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Working with individuals and active clients, to engage them in entering and participating in the treatment/recovery process. Engaging with an individual to consider entering treatment. Engaging a client to attend treatment or other healthcare services. Engaging an individual in continuing care services post-discharge. Discharge planning and referral procedures. Assist in developing treatment/recovery plans, including the set-up of goals and objectives. Raising awareness of existing social and other support services. Modeling coping skills. Assisting with applying for benefits. Accompanying clients to court appearances and medical or other appointments. Providing non-clinical crisis support, especially after periods of hospitalization or incarceration. Working with participants to identify strengths. Linking participants to formal recovery supports. Educating program participants about various modes of recovery. Education and support on the use of medication assisted treatment. Communication with other staff to benefit patient progress. Completion of documentation required in maintenance of patient records. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. State Certification as a Recovery Peer Advocate required. Ability to communicate effectively with written and verbal skills. Minimum of 1-year active participation in peer support or peer advocacy programs or participant run organization or similar experiences required.
