Description Position Overview S.T.A.R. is seeking a dedicated and experienced Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to serve in the role of Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) within our licensed Outpatient Treatment Center (OTC). This is a direct-care behavioral health position working with individuals living with general and/or serious mental illness in a structured day treatment setting. This role requires strong clinical support skills, documentation ability, crisis intervention experience, and a commitment to recovery-oriented care. As a BHT, you will provide screening support, individualized service planning, life skills training, advanced coping skills instruction, case management, crisis intervention, and group facilitation while contributing to a structured and recovery-focused treatment environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Clinical & Treatment Services Facilitate structured therapeutic groups and 1:1 member interactions Assist in screening and assessment processes Collaboratively develop and contribute to Individualized Service Plans (ISPs) Provide life skills and advanced coping skills training Conduct outreach calls and engagement support Collaborate with the clinical team, family members, and primary care providers Make appropriate referrals to internal programs and community-based organizations Utilize verbal de-escalation and behavioral intervention techniques Implement crisis intervention as needed and follow disruption policy procedures Provide meaningful input during daily staffing to ensure quality member care Documentation & Compliance Complete group sheets, progress notes, and required EHR documentation Follow quality assurance and Article 10 documentation standards Apply member handbook regulations consistently Attend required clinical oversight and supervision trainings Treatment Milieu & Member Supervision Supervise and monitor members in the treatment environment Maintain a recovery-focused and trauma-informed atmosphere Ensure all members sign in and out appropriately Assist members with independent living skills (ILS) and chore support Conduct Food Share and hygiene support services Transportation & Program Support Drive a 10-passenger van to transport members (if designated as a driver) Assist with monthly outing schedules Perform opening and closing duties Cover reception area as needed Additional Responsibilities Participate in required staff meetings and trainings Assist in training interns, volunteers, and new hires Utilize Microsoft Outlook and Teams for communication Appraise management of any conflicts or program suggestions Other duties as assigned Requirements Education GED or High School Diploma Experience: Must have a personal lived experience of mental health and/or substance abuse issues and is living in recovery and willing to share their experience to assist others. Qualifications Experience working as a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) preferred Experience facilitating groups and completing clinical documentation Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to work in a structured behavioral health setting Valid driver’s license
