Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Recreation Aide to join our team. In this role, you will assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating recreational activities tailored to the needs and interests of our residents. You will play a vital role in promoting social interaction, physical activity, and overall well-being.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 plus completion of recognized Recreation Diploma, Activity Assistant Certificate, or courses such as handicrafts plus 1 year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Food Safe level 1 certificate required.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR Level C an asset.
  • Musical talent (ability to play musical instrument) an asset.
  • Experience in a recreational or therapeutic role, preferably in a long-term care setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for working with seniors.

Responsibilities
  • Provides recreational programs that meet a diverse population of residents.
  • Setup, organize equipment needed for specific program(s), and oversee residents involved by encouraging participation.
  • Ability to follow safety policy and protocol in the community with residents and volunteers.
  • Effective and professional communication skills with all facility departments.
  • Ability to provide support to volunteers.
  • Maintain inventory of department equipment.
  • Report risk, hazards, near misses, unsafe situations, incidents and accidents to Therapies Manager.
  • Record and discuss residents’ participation levels in programs.
  • Escort, transport, assist residents to programs.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by manager.
