QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (SI) Certificate
  • Current Lifesaving Society Instructor (LSI) Certificate
  • Current National Lifeguard Certificate
  • Vulnerable Persons Police Screening
  • Certification as required for the course being taught ie National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner
  • Life Saving Society Instructor Trainer

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments.

Responsibilities

ROLE:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics, the Aquatic Leadership Instructor- Advanced is responsible for preparing and delivering aquatic leadership courses such as National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Instructor courses. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced aquatic environment providing high quality programs while providing excellent customer service.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead high quality aquatic leadership courses activities that meet the requirements of the governing body (ie Lifesaving Society)
  • Supervise course participants and ensure safety at all times.
  • Create and implement course plans with the support of resources provided by Lifesaving Society and Recreation and Sport Supervisors.
  • Maintain daily records of attendance, accident reports, etc.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, parents, the public, and co-workers.
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and report any concerns to the Aquatic Coordinator/Supervisor.
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
