Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for facilitating recreation programming that meets the needs, interests, and preferences of clients. The Recreation Coordinator will respectfully engage with seniors in person and/or virtually ensuring a positive & enjoyable client experience.
Accountabilities:

Client Services:

  • Follow individual goals for participants and document actions on client care plan.
  • Facilitate a variety of leisure/ recreational activities according to established recreation plan.
  • Engage clients in individual, small, and large group opportunities, which correspond to the identified leisure needs and interests.
  • Ensure the safety of the clients while involved in leisure/recreational activities both inside and outside of the building.
  • Assist or facilitate as required with the safe arrival and departure of participants.
  • Perform room set up and facility cleaning routines daily.
  • Decorate building seasonally and in celebration of special events as required.
  • Support participants and provide washroom, ambulation, and feeding assistance as required.
  • Assist program staff during staff absences for meal and comfort breaks.

    Communication/Administration:

  • Follow participant care plan and update as required.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and records.
  • Report any actual or potential problems/situations to the Program Supervisor or designate.
  • Report any identified needs to team members, Program Supervisor and/or on–call designate and caregiver.
  • Complete and submit incident reports.

    Human Resources:

  • Provide support to staff team as required.

  • Provide training, mentoring and orientation to new staff/volunteers/students.

    Property and Equipment:

  • Report any property damage, mechanical breakdown of equipment and/or repairs needed in the program.

  • Responsible for the organization and maintenance of program supplies/equipment used within the program.

Perform other position related duties as required.

Critical Relationship Management:

  • Internal relationships:
  • Corps Officer, supervisor, volunteers, staff
  • External relationships:
  • Community, program clients and their families

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports directly to the Adult Day Program Supervisor or designate.
  • Uphold all Salvation Army policies, directives, and operating guidelines as contained in the Policy Manual of The Salvation Army London Village.
  • Assist the ADP Program Director, Program Supervisor and coworkers in creating and maintaining a high quality, client focused, community program suitable for providing varying levels of care to program participants.
  • Participate in program quality assurance initiatives.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of Alzheimer Disease and related dementias and available community resources.
  • Study trends and developments in therapeutic recreation and apply as appropriate.
  • Represent the Adult Day Program on internal committees, and/or community committees as appropriate.
  • Participate in client specific and/or program specific training and ongoing professional development as required.
  • Attendance at scheduled staff meetings encouraged.
