POSITION SUMMARY

The Recreation Foreman will coordinate the building and grounds maintenance needs of all Town owned public access facilities – including but not limited to: the Coaldale Sportsplex, the New Multi-use Recreation Centre, Athletic Fields, the Public Library, the Gem of the West Museum and Civic Square. This position provides technical support for building and grounds maintenance needs and operational support for the set-up and delivery of all recreation & community services functions for the aforementioned facilities and spaces. This position will assist in supervising required contract services pertaining to building and grounds maintenance of all Town owned facilities and is responsible for participating fully in activities within the assigned range of responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience in recreation and facility maintenance operations;
  • AARFP Level 2 Arena Operating Certificate.
  • AARFP Level 2 Pool Maintenance Certificate.
  • AARFP Building Maintenance 2 Certificate.
  • AARFP Parks & Sports field Maintenance 2 Certificate.
  • AARFP Leadership Certification.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Knowledge with standard business software (Microsoft Office).
  • Combination of education and experience will be considered.
Responsibilities
  • Make and maintain ice for the arena.
  • Work with user groups and assist with special projects, such as league tournaments, and community events;
  • Implements procedures and work plans to achieve approved goals and objectives;
  • Ensure recreation facilities are cleaned on a regular basis, and that present and future hazards and corresponding upgrades or remedies, are identified and implemented;
  • Oversee daily pool maintenance and other related responsibilities, including but not limited to: water testing and water levels; system fire up, chemical balance, boiler room inspection, and deck repairs;
  • Oversee the daily work schedules and work quality of permanent and seasonal recreation staff;
  • Participates in the recruitment process of obtaining new hires;
  • Creates a high-performance culture with a strong team focus;
  • Ensures that duties instructed by the Manager are carried out efficiently and safely;
  • Ensures that work practices of all recreation operations staff emphasize continuous improvement and customer service excellence;
  • Ensures that machinery, equipment, and vehicles are properly maintained as per departmental standards;
  • Ensures that an appropriate inventory of supplies is on hand. Purchases goods and services according to approved policies and budgets;
  • Ensures that all dealings with the public and other departments are conducted in a courteous and professional manner;
  • Ensures that all work performed within area of responsibility is conducted safely and in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and approved Town policies and procedures;
  • Ensures that departmental operations are conducted in compliance with all environmental legislation and approved policies and procedures; and,
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
