QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a recognized recreation program, plus a minimum 1 year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a long-term care setting. Understanding of aging/gerontology-based programming an asset.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English and Hebrew.
- An understanding of Jewish culture an asset.
- Ability to use the following programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Publisher, InTouchLink, Activity Pro, and Point Click Care.
- Ability to deal effectively with others.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to supervise volunteers as required.
- Ability to operate related equipment and to carry out the physical work duties of the position, including lifting over 5 lbs and climbing ladders

Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the direction of the Manager of Weinberg Residence and in consultation with applicable Managers develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates resident cultural and recreation programs including creative arts, cognitive programming, entertainment, cultural events and related leisure programs, with a focus on Jewish Values and Traditions. Duties include developing programs congruent to the older adult population in long-term care living with varying physical and cognitive limitations including dementia; setting up and organizing furnishings and equipment related to programming; facilitating/leading programs; overseeing, evaluating and documenting activities; communicating to supervisor and interdisciplinary team as applicable, and problem solving issues as appropriate.
- Develops and leads activities and engages residents and staff around the celebration of the Sabbath and Jewish holidays. Coordinating and scheduling Jewish holiday decorating for the facility.
- Assists, supports and informs other staff about Jewish customs, rituals, values and traditions as it relates to activities and other programs.
- Ensures safety of residents during all tasks; reports any adverse events or near misses to supervisor immediately.
- In conjunction with the Manager of Weinberg Residence and other Managers as applicable, coordinates, plans, implements and evaluates appropriate resident cultural and recreation programs in the community: confirms details of proposed activity with community members, associations, synagogues, service leaders, etc. to ensure success of activities. Liaises with external agencies/organizations as required.
- Creates and develops daily, monthly and annual calendars for Jewish cultural and other recreation programs as well as promotional documents relating to programs and events.
- Identifies need for volunteers to support the Jewish heritage within LBHH&WR and communicates to Volunteer Coordinator; provides support to volunteers during activity programs as required. Assists in providing information to volunteers and to staff concerning any aspects of Jewish faith that relates to planned activity.
- Meets regularly/as required with Manager of Allied Health Services and/or other Managers to review program development, activity implementation, and to receive support and direction as needed. Meet and work regularly with other members of the recreation department.
- Maintains inventory of equipment, materials and tools, and reports malfunctioning equipment and supply needs; provides list of equipment needed to supervisors for ordering.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
