Our Parks, Recreation and Culture department is seeking talented individuals to join our team as a Recreation Programmer. If you are interested in rewarding municipal work while making a difference in the community, this position is for you! In this role you will be responsible for planning, developing, scheduling, coordinating, and implementing a variety of specified recreational, social and cultural programs. The work involves hiring, training and supervising program staff, establishing and maintaining liaison with community groups, the general public and variety of internal and external contacts, promoting and publicizing interest and participation in program activities and assisting in the preparation and monitoring of program budgets. As a Recreation Programmer, you will also prepare and maintain records, reports and correspondence related to the work.
Performs related work as required.
To qualify, you’ll need to have graduated from a community college in a related field and have sound related experience including some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. We are looking for candidates with considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of organized community recreation, and sound knowledge of recreational interests, needs and resources of the community served. Other attributes include sound knowledge of policies, procedures, rules and regulations and teaching methods and group leadership techniques. You will have the ability to present ideas and viewpoints effectively both orally and in writing, along with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of contacts. Experience with ActiveNet and outdoor programming knowledge is an asset. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a police information check maybe required for this position.
Pay Rate: $34.63 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits.
Location: Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West, Swangard Stadium, and Deer Lake
Hours of work: As this is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and are scheduled on an as needed basis. Typical shifts are minimum four hours in length and may include weekends, statutory holidays, and occasional evenings.
