Description Rate: $22.80, hourly Full benefits package includes: MO Lagers Pension, medical, dental, life insurance, long-term disability and various voluntary benefit plans General Purpose of Position The Recreation Specialist is a year-round, evening manager position responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and customer-focused operation of parks, facilities, and rentals. This role oversees park patrols, rental check-ins and check-outs, part-time staff scheduling and training, and serves as a primary point of contact for patrons during field and facility rentals on evenings and weekends. The Supervisor acts as a liaison between the public and the Recreation and Athletics divisions, providing on-site support, problem-solving, and consistent enforcement of policies. Major Duties and Responsibilities • Conduct routine patrols to monitor, secure, and maintain park facilities. • Ensure field equipment and amenities are properly set up for scheduled leagues, games, and rentals. • Create staff schedules, coordinate meetings, and train part-time staff. • Assist with and oversee pavilion, room, and athletic field rentals, including on-site customer support. • Enforce Park rules, policies, and City ordinances with professionalism and consistency. • Support athletic league operations, including field oversight, communication, and game-day needs. • Respond to, document, and follow up on incidents, accidents, and patron concerns. • Serve as a liaison between patrons and Recreation/Athletics staff to ensure positive user experiences. • Complete regular facility and park inspections, identifying safety hazards and maintenance needs. • Provide exceptional customer service and represent the department in a professional manner at all times. • Responsible for budget management and handling purchasing needed for the position. • Assists with other various special events festivals and programs • Performs other duties as directed • This is a safety sensitive position Work Schedule: This position primarily works evenings and weekends to provide coverage during peak usage times. Flexible weekday availability is required for coordination with administrative staff, mid-week rentals, and program support. Standard Schedule (subject to change as management requires): Tuesday–Saturday | 1:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge · Operation of central telephone system · Operations in field maintenance · Special event management/ security · Operation of mobile radio base system · Modern office practices and procedures · Basic accounting practices and procedures · City systems and procedures · Recreation computer systems, including, but not limited to: Micro Soft Office, “OpenGov” and “Civic Rec” · Policies and procedures for handling cash · Proper grammar and the use of English in speaking and writing · Computer operations and applications, including word processing and spreadsheets · Mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication · General functions and operations of municipal government Skills and Abilities · Basic computer knowledge and skills a must. · Basic math skills and finance knowledge. · Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment. · Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. · Ability to handle stressful situations. · Organizational skills · Use various pieces of equipment, golf carts, utvs, trucks, field drags, basic tools · Maintain confidentiality · Proofread reports accurately Deal well with the public, even in stressful Requirements Education and Experience The person in this position must have a high school diploma or its equivalent to specialized course work in office practices such as security, ballfield experience, and communications. Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations is vital for this position.
