Description PURPOSE/FUNCTION OF THE PROGRAM: The Residential programs are clinical/behavioral treatment-oriented programs designed to serve psychiatrically/behaviorally disturbed children between the ages of 11-18. Safe Haven PSB program is a specialized residential treatment facility for boys between the ages of 11 – 18 who exhibit problem sexual behaviors to the extent that they require staff secure treatment facility to address they are acting out. And the Kraft House is a 12-bed inpatient psychiatric residential treatment program for adolescent boys, including those boys with substance use disorders who have experienced emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. This program is a step down from inpatient hospitalization or a diversionary placement from a more restrictive environment. The program is designed to help adolescent boys return home to their community or a long- term group- home setting. II. POSITION SUMMARY The Recreational Therapist plans, coordinates, and facilitates therapeutic recreation and structured leisure programming for youth with significant emotional, behavioral, trauma-related, psychiatric, and sensory needs. This position collaborates closely with residential management and the clinical team to ensure consistent availability of groups and activities to support a therapeutic milieu. III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In coordination with the Senior Recreational Therapist assesses clients recreational, social, and emotional needs in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Develop and implement age-appropriate, and therapeutic recreation programming aligned with individual treatment plans. Facilitate group and individual recreation therapy sessions that promote skill-building, emotional regulation, teamwork, self-esteem, and healthy leisure skills. Ensure compliance with safety protocols, risk management procedures, and supervision requirements during activities. Plans and implements daily group and individual recreation therapy interventions & activities and contributes to client needs and interests meeting the goals/objective of their treatment plans. Coordinates and supervises recreational activities run by line staff. Plan and oversee completion of therapeutic recreation activities by Mental Health Worker. In coordination with the Senior Recreational Therapist, secure materials to decorate the units with seasonal themes and oversee holiday celebrations. Provide skill building activities that promote mindfulness and self-regulation. Identify developmentally appropriate activities that clients can utilize independently to promote self-regulation and prosocial skills. Focus on recreational therapeutic activities as directed in client treatment plan. Design milieu based activities that support positive interpersonal skills. Provide crisis management when needed. In coordination with Senior Recreational Therapist develop and oversee the weekly community service programming. Provide relevant training to direct care staff, such as Group Rules and Peace Room. Attend weekly staff meetings and weekly clinical rounds. In coordination with the Senior Recreational Therapist complete shift program planning for summer and holiday vacations. IV OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties as assigned. V ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Bachelor Preferred in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Knowledge of diverse populations, developmental and physical disabilities, and childhood development. Must have experience in facilitating groups. Must fulfill competency-based training requirements in TCI and Boys & Girls Village Social Skills Model. Must have valid drivers license VI PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: NCTRC certification and experience in Adventure-Based counseling. Bi-lingual preferred computer literacy. VII SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES NA VIII PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be physically fit to actively participate in the recreational activities provided to the children. Must be in sufficient physical condition to meet TCI requirements. IX WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT Flexible work schedule to be on shift during non-traditional hours, when children are home from school/weekends. Working conditions and working environment will be dictated by the program needs. This can include working indoors or outdoors.
