This ensures we can fairly and accurately understand your skills, perspective, and suitability for the role.  Nature and scope: The RFU is committed to appointing a dedicated team of coaches to support the development of talent in our Women’s Performance and Pathway teams. The Women’s Scrum Coach is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive scrum strategy within our teams and programmes, from the Red Roses through our international teams and into the centrally run Player Development Groups (PDG).  The Women’s Scrum Coach will work with the Head Coaches of the Red Roses, international pathway teams and PDG leads to create a vision and plan for the long-term development of young athletes. This will be aligned and supported by the Men’s England Pathway Scrum Coach. The Women’s Scrum Coach will be an ambassador for our Performance Pathway, the national team, and passionate about developing young talent creating a strong performance culture that reflects RFU values.  Coaching Accountabilities: * Lead the development and implementation of an integrated scrum strategy from the Red Roses to our  pathways, focusing on the technical and tactical aspects of scrummaging. * Align the scrum strategy to the game models of the Pathway and Red Roses Coaches. * Coach the pathway players to achieve a standard of performance capable of winning at the senior level.  * Coach the senior players to achieve a standard of performance of winning consistently at the senior level.  * Work closely with athletes, providing expert coaching and guidance to enhance their scrum technique, body position, binding, engagement, and power. * Collaborate with other coaches, medical staff, and support personnel to ensure a holistic approach to athlete development. Agree on challenging performance targets with the players to achieve their performance potential. * Provide feedback and identify development needs based on player selection and de-selection.  * Set the expectation that each player will take ongoing responsibility for their Performance Plan and monitor progress, in and out of Camp. Facilitate open and collaborative communication with the player’s clubs. * Conduct regular training sessions, individualised coaching sessions, and video analysis to assess performance, identify areas for improvement, and monitor progress. * Refine match day tactics and recommend ‘in the moment’ performance decisions to the Head Coach as required.  Leadership Accountabilities: * Adapt and align personal coaching philosophy to the needs of the players and coaching group. * Embed and maintain a strong team culture, with values that unite the England scrum unit.  * Champion equality of opportunity for the Pathway Teams, and proactively grow a team of diverse talent that represents rugby union in England. * Adopt a growth mindset and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Stay updated with the latest coaching methodologies, sports science research, and best practices to enhance coaching effectiveness. * Provide guidance, support, and motivation to help athletes navigate the challenges they may encounter on their pathway to becoming, and maintaining being a senior team player. Management Accountabilities: * Develop a pipeline of world leading forwards who can scrummage, working with key stakeholders to identify, track and progress individuals. * Build a depth chart for each position in the scrum, have a clear succession and development plan aligned to the depth chart. * Input into the continuous preview and review of training, matches, campaigns, seasons, and cycles. * Develop and maintain strong relationships with athletes and stakeholders, providing regular feedback, support, and guidance throughout their development pathway. * Adhere to the safeguarding measures implemented for the well-being of all England Rugby members and ensure that appropriate support is provided whenever they are under the care of the RFU. * Hold team members accountable for their behaviour in Camp and its impact on the performance environment. * Recognise and reward individual and team success. * Build a positive professional relationship with the Scrum Coaches at the Clubs and facilitate open and collaborative communication. * Operate within the parameters of the resources that are available to the Pathway Teams e.g., within an agreed budget and the limitations on access to players.  Knowledge and experience: Essential: * Hold, or working towards, RFU Level 3 coaching award (or equivalent) as a minimum. * Embedded coach experience within a performance environment. * Experience of self-directed work and working as part of a team. Desirable: * A strong background in rugby coaching, with a particular focus on scrum techniques and strategies. * Proven experience working with athletes in a development setting, preparing them for higher levels of competition. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and motivate young athletes in both the men’s and women’s game. * Strong organisational skills, including the ability to plan and deliver effective training sessions and manage individualised player development plans. * Knowledge and experience of diversity and equality challenges in rugby * Must have good knowledge of the structure and operation of Rugby Union in England.
