Location: Various locations throughout Nova Scotia - specifically in the Annapolis Valley and Cape Breton
Type: Full-time, term (immediately - June 30th, 2026) 2+ positions available
Salary: $55.00/hour, (avg 35 hours per week), travel compensated based on provincial rates
Hours: Standard weekday hours, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Requirements: Red Seal in a relevant trade, Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check, valid driver’s license and vehicle access with insurance.

POSITION SUMMARY

Are you interested in helping to build the “next generation” of home builders? Experienced in home building but looking to use your skills and experience to make a larger impact? The Atlantic Home Building and Renovation Sector Council (AHBRSC) has an immediate opening for dedicated and skilled Instructors for our Tiny Home Construction and Finishing Fundamentals programs. The Instructors, in collaboration with our Program Facilitator/Teachers will facilitate hands-on, skills-based learning in new home construction from site development and framing to exterior and interior finishing.
These positions require a compassionate approach to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Experience in facilitation or program instruction is an asset, but is not required. As journey people, you have likely mentored and/or supported many learners. Your skills and knowledge are invaluable to those wanting to learn!

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Red Seal certification in a relevant trade.
  • Experience in new home construction.
  • Strong mentorship and hands-on training skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to develop relationships with community businesses, agencies, & organizations.
Responsibilities
  • Daily facilitation of hands-on, skills-based learning for participants, ensuring they can apply classroom knowledge to real-world construction tasks, enhancing their work readiness in the areas of new home construction and “Essential Skills”
  • Provide expertise in safety, tools, equipment, construction site operations, current building code, building science (Net Zero), framing, roofing, drywalling, cabinetry installation, finish carpentry and more.
  • Assess participant competency in practical skills and ensure they meet industry standards.
  • Support participants in obtaining certifications such as First Aid, End Frame (Scaffolding), Fall Arrest Prevention, WHMIS, OHS, Ladder Safety and more.
  • Collaborate with the Instructor to integrate theoretical and practical learning components.
  • Motivate learners, support individuals in personal exploration, adapt delivery to meet individuals needs, and provide constructive feedback to challenge opportunities for growth.
  • Manage the ongoing construction project and site - the completion of three net-zero tiny homes.
