JOB DESCRIPTION

The Lead Hand Plumber at DMS Mechanical Ltd. plays a key leadership role in supporting the Site Foreperson to ensure successful delivery of new-build plumbing and hydronic mechanical projects. This position combines hands-on plumbing expertise with team coordination, quality control, and safety leadership. The Lead Hand Plumber is expected to guide and support crew members, oversee daily site activities, and act on behalf of the Site Foreperson when required. This full-time position follows a Monday–Friday schedule, with work at project sites located throughout Metro Vancouver, primarily in Burnaby and Coquitlam.
The Foreperson – Plumbing & Hydronic Systems at DMS Mechanical Ltd. is responsible for leading all on-site activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. This role oversees crews, manages subcontractors, coordinates with project managers, and serves as the main on-site contact for clients and consultants. The Foreperson combines technical expertise with leadership, planning, and communication to ensure successful project execution. This full-time position follows a Monday to Friday schedule and requires regular work at project sites located throughout the Metro Vancouver area, with key project sites in Burnaby and Coquitlam.

REQUIREMENTS

_ Lead Hand_

  • Valid Red Seal Journeyperson Plumber ticket
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in commercial or residential plumbing, with 2+ years in crew lead role
  • Strong knowledge of BC plumbing codes, hydronic systems, and HVAC components
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical schematics
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • Strong work ethic and team-oriented attitude
  • Physical stamina and dexterity

Foreperson

  • Valid Red Seal Journeyperson Plumber ticket
  • 5+ years of plumbing/hydronic mechanical experience in a supervisory/lead role
  • Strong knowledge of BC plumbing codes, hydronic systems, and HVAC components
  • Proven ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and technical documents
  • Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with clients, subtrades, authorities, suppliers, and other stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills with budget and schedule awareness
  • Commitment to health, safety, and quality workmanship
  • Valid BC driver’s licence
Responsibilities

Lead Hand

  • Lead and coordinate site crews to deliver high-quality plumbing and hydronic installations.
  • Support the Site Foreperson in planning, scheduling, and supervising daily activities.
  • Mentor and guide apprentices and team members, fostering teamwork and morale.
  • Monitor work quality, complete QA/QC documentation, and maintain accurate site records.
  • Ensure safety compliance through daily inspections, reporting, and enforcement of company protocols and procedures.
  • Manage materials and resources efficiently, including ordering, tracking, and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, clients, and other trades.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve site issues to keep projects on track.

Foreperson

  • Lead and supervise crews, subcontractors, and on-site activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality installations.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, schedules, and materials to keep projects on time and on budget.
  • Enforce safety standards and company protocols through daily checks, toolbox talks, and inspections.
  • Oversee QA/QC processes, ensuring installations meet drawings, specifications, and client requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, project managers, and other trades.
  • Review drawings, RFIs, and material needs; manage orders, deliveries, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, reports, and time sheets while supporting project change management.
  • Mentor and guide apprentices and team members, fostering a positive and productive site culture.
