Essential Skills & Abilities Demonstrate advanced comprehension of ophthalmic assistant skills as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) Possess a basic understanding of optics and the ability to perform refractometry Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of optics, refraction, and contact lenses Maintain strong attention to detail and accuracy when performing diagnostic testing Demonstrate strong computer literacy and comfort working with EMR systems What You’ll Do As a Refractive Technician, you will play an important role in supporting physicians and ensuring a smooth patient experience. Responsibilities include: Gathering patient medical histories Performing patient work-ups and pre-testing Measuring visual acuity and performing pupil assessments Conducting diagnostic testing such as applanation tonometry, OCT, corneal topography, and keratometry Performing manual refractions and assisting with contact lens evaluations Accurately scribing for physicians during patient exams Supporting physicians and clinical staff to maintain efficient patient flow Requirements Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Strong computer and data entry skills One year of medical or ophthalmic office experience preferred COA or COT certification preferred, but not required for otherwise qualified candidates Excellent communication skills and a patient-first mindset Benefits We value work-life balance and want our employees to thrive both personally and professionally.
