Working in healthcare is more than just a job. It’s a chance to change lives. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to recruit to the position of Assistant Psychologist to join our psychology and therapy department in our Learning Disability & Autism services in the North & Midlands.
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team to support service users across a number of small complex care services, and residential care homes in Yorkshire (Barnsley & Rotherham) and potentially other services within the Yorkshire & Midlands region.
The ideal candidate will have some experience of working with adults with Learning Disabilities and/or Autistic adults, and a passion to learn and develop, to join our friendly team in the region.
As an Assistant Psychologist, working 37.5 hours a week, you will assist in clinically related activities and administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, and training of staff. You will engage with the multidisciplinary team and ensure that the service users are fully engaged in their care pathway.
Your role will include a significant focus on providing behavioural support to Autistic adults and adults with a Learning Disability. You will develop and implement individualised behavioural support plans based on service users’ needs and goals, including encouraging independence and development of life skills with a focus on improving quality of life.
You will be responsible for functional behaviour assessments and observations, positive behavioural support planning and implementations, incident analysis and facilitating PBS workshops and other training programmes.
Training opportunities will be available for the successful candidate along with clinical and management supervision.
The role involves travelling to different services within a geographical region so a driving licence and access to a car would be required to fulfil this role.

Responsibilities

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Working closely with the people we support to develop and implement individualised behavioural support plans that both meet their needs and help to develop their independence and life skills
  • Completing psychological and behavioural assessment tools and analysing complex data
  • Facilitating PBS and other relevant workshops
  • Supporting with staff training & development
  • Providing high quality written reports
  • Being involved with incident analysis & reflective practice
  • Attending regular clinical and service development meetings
  • Being an integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Contributing to audit and research
  • Carry out these duties in consultation and under supervision of the Registered Psychologist and contribute to the maintenance and development of a high-quality psychological service

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:

  • An undergraduate degree (2.1 or above) in Psychology that confers graduate basis for chartered membership (GBC) by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Experience of working with people in a similar or related field relevant to the post
  • Knowledge of PBS theory/practice
  • Have a good understanding of the legal frameworks that are relevant to the role (e.g., Mental Capacity Act)
  • To provide high quality reports and PBS plans
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A UK Drivers Licence
