Description GENERAL SUMMARY The Regional Chief Information Officer (Regional CIO) serves as the senior technology leader for a geographically dispersed, multi-state network of physician practices and ambulatory/outpatient facilities. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Regional CIO is responsible for translating enterprise IT strategy into regional execution, partnering closely with affiliate practice leaders, physicians, and operational teams to deliver secure, reliable, and clinician-friendly technology solutions. The role focuses on aligning regional IT operations, infrastructure, security, and support with organizational goals while ensuring seamless information flow, high system availability, and an exceptional end-user experience that directly supports patient care and practice success. Requirements ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Serves as the primary IT liaison and strategic partner to regional executive leadership, practice administrators, and physician leaders; builds trusted relationships to understand clinical and operational needs and ensure technology enables rather than hinders workflows. Drives the development and execution of the regional IT roadmap in full alignment with the enterprise IT strategy, priorities, and governance model. Defines, implements, and continuously matures a risk-based information security and cybersecurity program tailored to the region while maintaining strict adherence to corporate standards and regulatory requirements (HIPAA, HITECH, state privacy laws). Oversees the design, implementation, and ongoing support of regional IT infrastructure, networks, cloud services, end-user computing, telecommunications, and clinical systems across all affiliate locations. Ensures maximum uptime and resilience of critical systems through proactive monitoring, redundancy planning, robust disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities. Leads, mentors, and develops a geographically distributed IT team; fosters a high-performance culture focused on accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement. Manages the full lifecycle of regional IT projects (EHR optimizations, practice acquisitions/integration, telehealth expansion, etc.), delivering on scope, schedule, and budget while minimizing clinical and operational disruption. Identifies and realizes cost-saving and revenue-enabling opportunities through consolidation, standardization, renegotiation of vendor contracts, and optimization of licensing and support models. Owns the regional IT budget and capital planning process; provides accurate forecasting, variance analysis, and regular performance reporting to the CIO and regional leadership. Evaluates emerging technologies and industry trends; recommends and pilots innovative solutions that can improve patient experience, clinician satisfaction, or operational efficiency. Champions change management and adoption of new systems and processes across diverse practice cultures and maturity levels. Performs other position-related duties as assigned. Strategic vision and planning for IT in multi-site, multi-state healthcare settings, with the ability to align technology with clinical and operational priorities. Proven leadership in fostering innovation, collaboration, and change management across diverse teams and stakeholders. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field required. Master’s degree (MBA with healthcare focus or Master’s in Information Sciences/Health Informatics) strongly preferred. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Healthcare background supporting ambulatory surgery centers and physician practices strongly preferred. Experience in outpatient operations management strongly preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive IT experience in healthcare, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing technology for multiple locations or regions. Demonstrated success leading IT operations and strategy in a multi-site, multi-state physician practice or ambulatory healthcare environment strongly preferred.
