Description North Regional Director Location: Duluth, Minnesota About MACV Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) is a statewide nonprofit organization committed to ending veteran homelessness in Minnesota. With a team of approximately 115 dedicated staff, an annual operating budget of $21 million, and a portfolio of 230+ housing units, MACV provides comprehensive services that support stability, housing, and long-term success for veterans and their families. Approximately 75% of MACV’s funding comes from federal and state government grants, supplemented by a broad and growing base of philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. MACV provides comprehensive services to veterans to support their housing stability throughout the state of Minnesota through direct services and with a large network of partners. Position Summary The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) is seeking a skilled and dynamic leader to support and manage the North Regional Team in its work to end Veteran homelessness. This position leads MACV’s core client services activities in the North region, including management of personnel, partnerships and case management services. This position develops and implements plans and procedures for reviewing and approving financial assistance, personnel management, program administration, and related efforts to advance MACV’s mission to end Veteran homelessness. The geographic region covered is roughly the northern two-thirds of Minnesota outside of the Twin Cities Metro area, and includes staff located in Duluth, St. Cloud, Moorhead, and Bemidji. This position is expected to participate in public relations efforts representing MACV as opportunities arise. This position will lead MACV’s services in the region and collaborative initiatives to meet the objectives required to achieve MACV’s vision that every Veteran in Minnesota has access to services and support to avoid homelessness and achieve sustainable housing. Reporting Relationships Description This position will report to the Chief Programs Officer and is one of three Regional Directors in the organization. The North Regional Director position currently has 5 direct reports, including two program managers each with 4 direct reports, for a total team of 14. This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction to this broader team in accordance with MACV strategies and program direction. Coordination with Statewide Programs and Operations MACV is a statewide organization and has specialized programming and tracks that are provided in the region under the leadership of other program managers and directors. These program areas include: MACV housing operations (35 housing units in Duluth, Hibbing, and St. Cloud, MN) Vetlaw legal services Housing subsidies programs Healthcare navigation Justice-involved veterans services Landlord engagement services This position is required to coordinate closely across our broader team leading these services to ensure all veterans in the region have access to the full capabilities of MACV and partners. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Personnel Management and Supervision: Supervise two program managers and support their oversight of front-line staff. Provide coaching, guidance, and tools to ensure staff success. Apply strong supervision and visionary leadership to align staffing with regional goals. Program Effectiveness, Compliance, and Data Quality: Review regional policies and programs to ensure progress toward ending Veteran homelessness and support implementation of policies, processes, and directives from headquarters to ensure for consistency of the employee experience. Evaluate program effectiveness across the region and implement continuous improvement efforts. Understand various program and government grant compliance requirements and lead efforts to ensure practices adhere to compliance needs. Use data analysis to inform program development and improvements. Ensure data quality of client services records and communicate outcomes internally and externally. Financial Understanding and Planning: Maintain understanding of key financial metrics and reporting for the region. Inform resource needs and allocation through budgeting processes. Provide guidance on funds management for staff, facilities, and client assistance. Ensure alignment with MACV budget and grant/funder requirements. Train staff to follow MACV’s financial and spending policies. Outreach: Develop and coordinate outreach plans for the region. Analyze mission needs and service demand to identify outreach priorities. Guide staff on outreach-related policy and procedure changes. Manage and report on regional outreach activities and coordination with statewide programs. Building and Managing Partnerships: Maintain relationships with key partners including VA, MDVA, CVSOs, counties, cities, Legions, VFWs, and nonprofits. Foster collaboration to strengthen services to Veterans. Communications and Awareness Efforts: Support activities and events that increase awareness of MACV services. Contribute to media and social media efforts that highlight MACV’s impact. Help engage partners and the community to advance MACV’s mission. Engage with current and potential funding partners to support development team. MACV Office and Housing Facilities: Coordinate with MACV Housing Team that includes leadership, property management, and facilities management staff regarding residents in properties located in Region. Lead operations of office locations located in the region (Duluth, St. Cloud, Bemidji, and Moorhead) and coordinate with headquarters staff. Requirements Desired experience/skills/attributes: Interest and ability to build and support a team for the best outcomes for our clients and staff. Proven leadership experience in a professional, collaborative, and personable manner. Experience in housing, homeless services, or employment services for homeless or at-risk clients. Experience building, improving, and assessing programs. Incorporates equity and diversity values into their work. Management experience in fast-paced and high-impact work environments. Prior military experience and/or prior experience in Housing, nonprofit leadership or a field related to leading services for Veterans. Ability to travel regularly throughout the region’s geography.
