Rabobank has an opening for a Regional Head of Compliance based in Sydney AU or Hamilton NZ This is a line 2 senior management role with reporting lines to the Chief Risk Officer, ANZ and Global Head of Compliance for Wholesale and Rural. This role is ideal for a Compliance leader who has proven experience excelling at connecting people and driving impactful transformations in compliance management across diverse locations.
As Regional Head of Compliance, you will act as an objective and independent partner to the business and regional management. You will be the first point of contact on all compliance themes for the local leadership team. This role develops and translates the compliance vision, policy direction, and policy to the local business, as well as creating appropriate awareness on compliance risks/themes within the region.
The Regional Head of Compliance provides insight into the compliance risks and the compliance function for the purpose of the overall region and provides input for the global oversight on the Compliance themes. Ensuring awareness, control, and improvements in managing compliance risks within the region is a key responsibility of this role. You will obtain insight into the compliance risk profile of the region to detect new issues early and take appropriate measures in a timely manner. This requires a balanced focus on both short-term operational and long-term strategic topics.

Responsibilities

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Champion and oversee an effective compliance function for the Australia & New Zealand region ensuring any regulatory obligations are being met
  • Act as a trusted advisor in compliance management, for senior management and business stakeholders, leveraging your thorough knowledge of business products, processes, systems, and relevant laws and regulations
  • Contribute to the compliance maturity growth of the Region, and drive consistency and use of best practices / continuous learning across the Region
  • Analyse compliance risks in the region based on input from Local Compliance Officers, define overarching actions to mitigate these risks, and monitor on key compliance risks and audit points
  • Proactively raise potential global issues, respond to global requests, and raise potential extraterritorial application of local laws and regulations
  • Manage and oversee the communication with regional regulators to build strong, transparent relationships
  • Ensure timely filing of required reports
  • Escalate and resolve incidents and issues as needed
  • Act as Group Compliance ambassador in the Region, bridging the communication between the Region and Group Compliance
  • Assist Group Compliance with the implementation of Global policies and projects, overseeing compliance related implementations and projects within the Region
  • Participate in industry-related organisations to keep abreast of regulatory issues and ensure any industry initiatives are analysed and implemented

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE, YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Over 10 years’ experience in a banking or financial services organisation with complex matrix structures within Australia & / or New Zealand
  • Extensive experience in leading, managing and developing high-performing teams
  • Proven experience transforming teams
  • A deep understanding of risk management, with a track record of practically enhancing the quality of services, processes and practices to appropriately adher to regulations
  • Experience in engaging with bank regulators and banking regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills
  • An ability to develop creditability with stakeholders including the executive board level and the confidence to constructively challenge when appropriate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A detail-oriented and analytical mindset with an ability to identify potential issues and solutions
  • A pragmatic hands-on approach to issues, proactive and anticipatory of business needs
  • Track record of a pragmatic approach to uplifting capabilities and practices in a continuous improvement way
