POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the general supervision of the Director of Collaborative Practice, and in collaboration with the site Emergency/Urgent Care educators within WRHA and Provincially, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Regional and site educational program development for:
  • Nursing staff including R.N.s, L.P.N.s, R.P.N.s.
  • Regional and site teaching and learning activities.
  • Nursing practice standards.
  • Patient education development.
  • Professional and Self Development.

Note: The priority and percentages of each of the above functions will vary throughout the year and possibly from year-to-year. Time spent at individual sites will vary depending on need as assessed from time to time by the Regional Nurse Educator.

EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a minimum of four years recent related nursing experience with demonstrated competency in a defined area of clinical nursing practice.
  • Previous experience in teaching, education and program development and evaluation is preferred.

EDUCATION (DEGREE/DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE)

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Certified BLS Instructor (must obtain within three months of being hired into the position). Certificate or certification in a related specialty area preferred.
    Note: In certain circumstances, certification as an instructor in a specialty training course (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) may be stated as a requirement.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Competency with word processing, presentation programs, and virtual platforms required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in complex situations.
  • Evidence of knowledge of the principles of adult learning and teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to function creatively and independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
  • Initiates and supports change.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
    NOTE: Hours of work are flexible and may include evening, night or weekend shifts as
    required.
