Job status: Long Term Contract
Eligibility: Open to Everyone

Qualifications / Education

  • A tertiary qualification in natural resources management, environmental science, or similar is highly desirable

Responsibilities:

The Regional Project and Policy Officer is a newly created role, designed to provide an important support service the landscape board’s district teams. The district teams play a vital role in ecological and agricultural sustainability by managing pest plant and animal threats across the Murraylands and Riverland, in collaboration with the community. The landscape board’s district officers provide advice to help community members manage pest outbreaks, as well as actively undertaking control work and supervising pest control contractors.
The Regional Project and Policy Officer will support the district teams by developing regional strategies, policies, programs, and initiatives to underpin pest plant and animal control programs. The successful applicant will ensure that the team receives consistent project management support, communication products, permits and licenses. In addition, the Regional Project and Policy Officer will engage and work collaboratively with landscape board staff, community, and other agencies to provide technical advice, and support the delivery of the organisation’s priority activities.
Applications are sought from candidates with a sound understanding of weed and pest animal control theory and the related legislative environment. Practical, on ground experience undertaking control works would be advantageous but is not essential.
You’ll be adept at providing technical advice to landholders and stakeholders with an ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects at any one time. Your ability to identify proactive solutions, innovate, and engage with colleagues and stakeholders will ensure your success in this role.

Reflecting this is an organisational culture that nurtures, empowers and develops staff to create real impact through the work they do. Landscape board employees’ skills are developed through ongoing training, education and mentoring opportunities, and leadership programs with the opportunity to grow through promotional opportunities. About the organisation
The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board is a statutory body with a focus on enhancing, conserving, and sustaining the landscapes of our impressively diverse region. Our sustainable agriculture team works to drive on-farm productivity, while our engagement team collaborates with First Nations, young people, volunteers, and citizen scientists to build the skills and capacity of our greatest asset - our people.
Frontline staff are supported by a dynamic team of professionals working behind the scenes in roles ranging from finance and governance through to communications, planning, information management, monitoring and evaluation, investment support and more, working as one team to deliver for our region. The landscape board employs around 85 staff with offices located in Berri and Murray Bridge, with satellite sites in Lameroo, Cambrai, and Karoonda.
