Context Through the Objective 21 of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), States committed to cooperate in facilitating safe and dignified return and readmission, as well as sustainable reintegration. Safe and dignified return and sustainable reintegration are an indispensable part of a comprehensive approach to migration management. Assisted voluntary return and reintegration (AVRR) programs aim to support migrants who are unable or unwilling to remain in host or transit countries and wish to return to and sustainably reintegrate in their countries of origin. In order to support migrants in vulnerable situations with access to services, including voluntary return support and reintegration assistance, IOM implements the Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme – North Africa (MPRR-NA), multi-year programme funded by the European Union (EU) and supported by the governments of Denmark, Norway, Italy and Sweden. While facilitating migrants’ access to protection assistance, including return and reintegration services, the programme also aims at strengthening the return and reintegration capacities of partner countries. Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Regional Director for Operations and the direct supervision of the Senior Regional Programme Coordinator (MPRR-NA), and in close coordination with the Senior Regional Thematic Specialist for Migrant Protection MPX , other relevant units in Regional Office (RO) in Cairo and country offices, and the Central Coordination Unit of the MPRR for Sub-Saharan Africa, the Regional Return and Reintegration Officer will be responsible, in the scope of the MPRR-NA programme, for providing operational support to country offices, promoting cross-regional coordination and leading regional initiatives as regards to return and reintegration.
Responsibilities
The Regional Return and Reintegration Officer will provide operational support to country offices and promote cross-regional coordination regarding return and reintegration initiatives. They will also lead regional initiatives within the scope of the Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme.
